Sad day for democracy in the US.

In deed it is a sad day for democracy and not only in the United States but in the world. First I would like to say that "Democracy" is a beautiful word that is sadly misunderstood by the people. From the Greek democratia, which is composed by demos 'the people' plus kratia 'power, rule', "The people rule". Well nobody seems to know the meaning of the word in the great United States of America and forget about 'freedom of speech' and 'free press' because is just too much to ask from the nation that is supposedly bringing 'freedom and peace to the world'.

Today was the second presidential debate between the two major candidates of the two major parties but, what about the rest? Well I'll tell you what, they are not only excluded from the debates by the laws of the two strong parties but they were arrested today at the beginning of the debate because they crossed the police barricade. Green Party presidential candidate David Cobb and Libertarian Party candidate Michael Badnarik were protesting their exclusion from the debate. What an example to the world on how the American people view democracy and freedom of speech!

But the worst part was the coverage that this important event got: NONE in the El Paso area! NONE from the major stations, I'm talking about ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox News had no mention of the insult on the American people and their right to govern.

So that my readers understand the gravity of what I'm talking about I'll say this: I come from what is considered to be a third world country (MEXICO) and I just got my permanent residency in this country and for me is the saddest political day that I had ever experienced because of the fact that I thought I was coming to a nation of true freedom and political views that are supposed to be far more advanced than in my country and I find that this is just not true.

I feel devastated and disappointed and I think to my self why is the American people so numb? The real American citizens, what are they doing about it? cause it seems to me that they think democracy means that you have to vote for the people that the two major parties present to you or that you have to vote for the lesser of two evils. Well that's not what democracy means! wake up people! take political responsibility and action for the good of this great nation!

If you are thinking "Who the hell is Michael Badnarik or David Cobb and who the hell cares?" well think again cause on november second you'll be voting in the dark and mostly because the press is two sided and don't care about covering other choices, YOUR CHOICES! This third party candidates are not just spoilers they are to be taken seriously David Cobb the candidate for the Green Party is appearing on the ballots in 28 states and Libertarian Party candidate Michael Badnarik appears on the ballots in 48 states. So if you are interested on making an informed decision on november 2nd please go to:

I whole-heartedly agree with you and am saddened not only by the exclusion practiced by the Presidential Debate Commission, but also that when the Kerry and Bush signed the agreement with the Commission they also agreed that they can only participate in debates sponsored by the Commission and thus can't debate any other candidate as they aren't allowed in debates sponsored by the Commission.

Its a travesty and its proof why voting for a third party candidate is not a wasted vote, as at the very least it is a public rejection of both the major parties and the laws they pass while in power to keep other parties sidelined and often off the ballot at all levels from local to state to national elections.
